Embark on a musical adventure with fun'SQ where the digital realms of video games and the enchanting melodies of anime collide! Whether you're a dedicated gamer, an anime enthusiast or simply someone who appreciates music, join us for a concert at the library. fun'SQ (pronounced fun'esque) is a saxophone ensemble, born from the fun the group members have when they get together to jam to their favorite tunes. They all come from different backgrounds but share a love of saxophones and smaller ensemble works. They play a wide range of music genres including video games, anime, jazz, classical, pop/rock, movies, holidays and more.

Join us for a performance with HAOPINAKA! Their performances are entertaining, educational, and interactive. They perform Hawaiian songs and hula, and they talk about the meaning and context of each song. They also invite the audience to participate in learning some basic hula as well during the performance. One of the hula we teach is hula noho, which means seated hula. The audience learns the hand motions for the hula, and then everyone can participate, including those with less mobility.

Bring your bouncing baby to our weekly playtime, full of nursery rhymes and songs you can do together to stimulate your baby’s development. Ideal for newborns up to 18 months old, but all are welcome.

Learn how to play the fantasy card game Magic the Gathering! You will have the chance to sort cards, build a deck and play a match. The best part? You get to keep the deck you build! Materials for this program are generously supplied by MagiKids and their mission to support the intellectual health of youth through Magic the Gathering. This drop-in weekly activity is intended for school-aged youth as part of Power Up Afternoons. During Power Up Afternoons, school-aged youth can focus on homework, join a hands-on program to rejuvenate after the school day or enjoy learning from a programming expert.

Gem Painting is taking the crafting world by storm. It’s the perfect mixture of paint-by-numbers and mosaic art, without the paint! Instead, tiny gems make a beautiful pattern and sparkle in the light. Gem Painting is a recurring series that invites creative makers to gather together in the same place at the same time every week. If you are interested in participating, be sure to register for the series, attend the first date, and then drop in on the dates that work for your schedule so you can work on your masterpiece.  Participants are not required to attend every session, but we will only accept new participants during the first meeting of the month. As this project aims to gather creative makers in the community, each participant's gem painting materials will be labeled and held at the library until the month is complete. Check the schedule below for the dates when we will be providing canvases to new participants and when we will only be allowing pre-existing participants to drop in. April Dates: May 2 - 11:00-12:00 - Canvases available for new participants May 9 - 11:00-12:00 - Drop in for pre-existing participants May 16 - 11:00-12:00 - Drop in for pre-existing participants May 23 -11:00-12:00 - Drop in for pre-existing participants May 30 -11:00-12:00 - Drop in for pre-existing participants This is a fun and relaxing activity that’s good for mental health and wellness. The Restorative Yoga and Sound Healing event is designed to provide space for you to slow down, relax, rest, and replenish yourself. In Restorative Yoga, poses are made comfortable with the support of props and held for long periods to allow for the relaxation of your mind and body. A sound bath accompanies these supportive poses. Singing bowls enhance this practice and are also played on the body to further relax your emotional and physical well-being. This class starts with centering then gentle stretching and incorporates mindfulness techniques into each restorative pose. No prior yoga experience is necessary. Please bring a yoga mat, blanket and bolster.

Although Juneteenth may be a new observance to some, it has a 159-year history among Black Texans and their family members who have migrated across the country. It commemorates June 19, 1865, the date when Major General Gordon Granger and his troops rode into Galveston, TX, with the news that the Civil War had ended and that all slaves were free--two and one-half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Join Bay Area Poet Lois Fried for an evening of combining poetry, history, and a mini (fun) workshop to explore the legacy, traditions, and future of this important national holiday. Note: attendees will receive a free copy of Lois Fried's book So Great the Journey. A book signing with Lois will conclude the evening.
