Let’s make music together! Join us for a silly, funny, song-and-dance-filled storytime for all ages.  After Storytime join us for Stay and Play, a time to engage in open-ended exploration and learning in the company of other children and caregivers. This event will be held outdoors at San Pedro Valley Park (600 Oddstad Boulevard, Pacifica). Please bring your blanket/seating and sun protection. Capacity limits may apply. Storytime may be canceled in the event of inclement weather or poor air quality.

Gem Painting is taking the crafting world by storm. It’s the perfect mixture of paint-by-numbers and mosaic art, without the paint! Instead, tiny gems make a beautiful pattern and sparkle in the light. Gem Painting is a recurring series that invites creative makers to gather together in the same place at the same time every week. If you are interested in participating, be sure to register for the series, attend the first date, and then drop in on the dates that work for your schedule so you can work on your masterpiece.  Participants are not required to attend every session, but we will only accept new participants monthly. As this project aims to gather creative makers in the community, each participant's gem painting materials will be labeled and held at the library until the month is complete. Check the schedule below for when we will provide canvases to new participants and when we will only allow pre-existing participants to drop in. December 2 -- 12:30-1:30 -- Canvases available for new participants December 9 -- 12:30-1:30 -- Drop in for pre-existing participant December 16 -- 12:30-1:30 -- Drop in for pre-existing participants December 23 --12:30-1:30 -- Drop in for pre-existing participants December 30 --12:30-1:30 -- Drop in for pre-existing participants This is a fun and relaxing activity that’s good for mental health and wellness. Chen-style Taijiquan (Tai Chi) is widely acknowledged as the ancestor of all other styles of Taijiquan. This class will introduce the Chen-style Taijiquan form, Silk-reeling Exercises and Wuji Qigong. The Chen-style Taijiquan form is soft and graceful with strong rooted stands that will help students to develop strength, balance, coordination and an understanding of basic Taiji principles. Silk-reeling Exercises are a series of spiral movements which promote muscle relaxation and flexibility by reducing physical tension and strain. Wuji Qigong (standing meditation) will help students to cultivate internal energy (qi) with proper body alignment for better internal energy flow, which will enhance their immune systems and reduce physical and mental stress. Weather permitting, this event will take place outside, on the Pacifica Sanchez back patio. Please bring your own layers, sun protection, and water as appropriate.

Sign your child up to have their own session to practice reading with a therapy dog at the library.  Studies show that children who may not want to read in front of their peers are much less anxious with an animal present. Children don't perceive animals to be judgmental and reading to an animal helps them become more confident readers. We’d like to thank our partners for making this possible: Pet Assisted Therapy teams and their handlers from the Peninsula Humane Society & the SPCA's Paws for Tales program. Registration is required and space is limited, so register early for your 10-minute slot at smcl.org/pawsfortales.
