Greetings OSA Families & Community, State-Required Testing for grades 6, 7, 8, & 11 is scheduled for April 15- April 17th. These tests are not timed, and are taken on your students OSA issued Chromebook with headphones. Students 6-8 &11th grade will take the tests during the normal school day with a modified bell schedule. Teachers have prepared curriculum with this in mind, so that students will not miss instruction. Every year we are required by the state to assess our students' depth of knowledge on specific subjects. All students in grades 6, 7, 8, and 11 take the CAASPP (consisting of Math and English). There is also a Science test (CAST) for grades 8 and 11. This exam is a computer based, statewide exam that publishes our results to the California Dashboard, impacts our funding, and affects a host of other high-stakes reporting. Additionally, many UC’s and CSU’s will take the results into consideration during freshman placement testing. Much deliberation has gone into finalizing these dates, including balancing instructional days, end of year performances, and upcoming final exams. Please ensure your child's attendance all week and schedule non-urgent appointments for another time. Please help us in our ongoing efforts to improve test scores! Talk up the importance of doing your best. Ensure kids are well rested and at school on time, and please send them with headphones and snacks if you are able. Help to create a culture of academic excellence by modeling behavior at home - Your kids look to you for behavior cues - whether it feels like it or not! Although you do have the right to opt your child out of testing, we sincerely hope that you will not. OSA must achieve 95% student participation in this exam or face financial penalties. We are a small enough school that even one or two kids not taking the test can tip the balance and impact our funding. Please, please help us to achieve full participation!
