Dance along with them in the Tabby Theater and be delighted, inspired, and excited with the joy of dance! The Dance Along with Ballet Etudes program is generously offered free of charge to participants. Tickets are required to attend Dance Along and are available at the Children's Desk the morning of each Dance Along.Ballet Etudes is Huntington Academy of Dance's resident non-profit youth ballet company. Oak View Branch Library invites children ages 7 & up, and teens to join us this free of charge Chess Club every Saturday from 2:30-4:00 pm! Keep a close eye on our calendar or your email just in case we need to cancel any chess club meetings. Chess requires focus and attention to play well; however, we have noticed that chess participants burn out before club time ends. Therefore, we decided to reduce the chess club hours. We will still start at 2:30 p.m., but we will now end at 4:00 p.m. We will start this new schedule on Feb 1, 2026. After club ends, the chess club participants may stay to freely play chess, to play other board games or for any of our other passive activities. Thank you for participating in our libraryâs chess club! Information for Participants and Parents:Chess at the Library is offered free of charge for all ages. We offer this program on Saturdays from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. at the Oak View Branch Library. However, keep a close eye on our calendar or your email just in case we have to cancel any chess club meetings. We are not currently accredited with the United States Chess Federation (USCF) so we do not conduct official tournaments. This may or may not change in the future. If you would like to participate in official tournaments, we ask you register yourself or your child with the USCF on your own. We offer limited chess instruction. A short lesson will take place on the first Saturday of each month. Instruction is provided by volunteers: We are not trained chess instructors. We will teach the basics of chess to your child, but improvement requires time outside of the library to study and play. Guidelines All participants no matter their age must follow the The Huntington Beach Public Library (HBPL) behavior policy which is posted within the Oak View Branch Library. Those who do not comply with the behavior policy shall be asked to leave the premises and, depending on severity, may be excluded from future chess activities. Following HBPL Behavior Policy, do not leave children 12 years old and younger unsupervised (they may be supervised by someone 12 years old and older).
