Dive into the exciting world of engineering through open-ended, hands-on challenges in our makerspace! Use everyday materials alongside creative tools like Legos, robots, and Magna-Tiles to build strong structures, test stability, and solve real-world design problems. Put your design skills to the test as you build structures, solve creative problems, and bring your ideas to life using our laser cutter, 3D printer, and vinyl cutter. Perfect for curious minds eager to think critically and collaborate, this program encourages teamwork and creative problem-solving. Curious about all the fun tech in our Makerspace? Gem Painting is taking the crafting world by storm. It’s the perfect mixture of paint-by-numbers and mosaic art, without the paint! Instead, tiny gems make a beautiful pattern and sparkle in the light. Gem Painting is a recurring series that invites creative makers to gather in the same place on a regular basis. If you are interested in participating, attend the first Friday of the month where canvases will be provided, and then drop in on the dates that work for your schedule so you can work on your masterpiece. Participants are not required to attend every session, but we will only be accepting new participants on a monthly basis. As this project aims to gather creative makers in the community, each participant's gem painting materials will be labeled and held at the library until the month is complete. Check the schedule below for when we will provide canvases to new participants and when we will only allow pre-existing participants to drop in. December 5, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM -- Canvases available for new participants December 7, 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM -- Drop in for pre-existing participants. New canvases will not be available at this session. December 12, 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM -- Drop in for pre-existing participants. New canvases will not be available at this session. December 14, 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM -- Drop in for pre-existing participants. Join our ukulele jam group for a morning of strumming and singing! We'll provide the music, and you bring the ukulele or ask at the front desk to borrow one of ours. Beginners welcome!

Meet Ranger Fatima and use your five senses to learn about the animals and plants that call the Presidio of San Francisco their home. Fatima will share Indigenous stories and their connections to the natural world, including the medicinal uses of native plants and how the indigenous people of this area have historically used them. Since 1998, Fatima Colindres has worked as interpretive park ranger at the Golden Gate National Recreation Area at the Presidio of San Francisco. They are passionate about providing a rich national park experience to people who traditionally have not visited the parks. Fatima uses their natural storytelling abilities to engage Spanish and English-speaking audiences of all ages in fun and interactive experiences that help them gain a new love and respect for their National Parks.
