In this two-hour “make and take” class, you will craft your own one-of-a-kind wreath using beautiful natural elements. Add a touch of holiday cheer to your home while enjoying the fresh, fragrant greenery of the season. All proceeds support the Gardens—so you will leave not only with a festive creation, but also with the joy of giving back. The Details?: The class will include instruction, fresh greenery, ribbon, and tools for you to create a wreath to take home. Bring pruners (if available) and garden gloves. Be prepared for cool temperatures in our unheated Propagation House and dress appropriately. We also recommend comfortable shoes and a refillable water bottle. If you are sick, please stay home.

Saturday, December 6 - Gates open at 6 p.m., Tour around 6:30 p.m. Experience a spectacular nighttime view . . . . . . from atop the Point Arena Lighthouse. Enjoy a panoramic view of the sea and coast from the lantern room at the top of the Tower, and if the weather cooperates it will be illuminated by the full moon! Our docents and guides will help you experience what it was like to be a Lighthouse Keeper and climb the Tower at night. They will guide you on your journey into the past and explain the unique history of this historic landmark, the tallest lighthouse on the West Coast. Champagne, sparkling juice, and sweet and savory snacks will be served as part of the tour, and you get to take home an etched Point Arena Lighthouse champagne flute as a souvenir of this unique experience! According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, December’s full Moon is most commonly known as the Cold Moon—a Mohawk name that conveys the frigid conditions of this time of year when cold weather truly begins to grip us. This full Moon has also been called the Long Night Moon (Mohican), as it rises during the “longest” nights of the year, near the December winter solstice. This name is doubly fitting because December’s full Moon shines above the horizon for a more extended period than most full Moons. All proceeds go toward supporting and maintaining the Lighthouse Tower, Museum, and grounds. Point Arena Lighthouse Keepers, Inc., thank you for your generous support. Tickets are $50 each. Reservations must be made by phone at 877-725-4448 ext. 1 or 707-882-2809 ext. 1 or in person no later than 3:30 p.m. three (3) days?before?the event date. We require a minimum of eight (8) reservations to conduct the tour, and there is a limit of 20 guests per tour. If we reach the minimum three (3) days before the event we will accept additional reservations (up to a total of 20 guests) until the day of the tour. We do not accept?walk-ins unless we have not reached the maximum number of guests. Cancellation policy:?No refunds are given if you cancel your reservation three days or less before the event. The Mendocino Coast has had for decades a very long heritage of many crisscrossing trails of spirituality here on the beautiful shores of the Pacific. When the Apostle Paul was a visitor in Athens, he was asked by an Athenian if he had found the statue to the unknown God in the Acropolis Temple. Paul replied to the Athenian that he had. Paul then went on to tell the man that he knew to whom the statue was dedicated. Astounded, the Athenian inquired of the answer. And, then Paul told him. You can also learn Paul's answer of twenty centuries ago, as well as much more about the two thousand years of Christian Spirituality since then. Join the Christian Spirituality Study at Mendocino Presbyterian Church, as we read and discuss the library of books from the Spiritual Formation Certificate Program at Columbia Theological Seminary. The weekly study is led by Presbyterian Ordained Elder, and Candidate for Commissioned Lay Pastor, Robert Scott. For more information call Mendocino Presbyterian Church at (707) 937-5441

Saturday and Sunday, December 13 - 14 or Saturday and Sunday, December 20 - 21 with Naturalist and Mycologist Mario Abreu at the MCBG Farmhouse Register Now Mushroom ID for Beginners is an in-depth two-day workshop consisting of an interactive lecture (Sat) with demonstrations, followed by an optional Field ID Walk (Sun) to find mushrooms associated with the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens' native plant communities. Naturalist and Mycologist, Mario Abreu will teach the basic taxonomic identifying features that distinguish mushrooms from each other, where each unique mushroom species can be found, when they can be found, and the myths associated with them. ?The guided walk is optional. Class participants can also explore our wild mushroom collection on their own time armed with a list of species commonly found at the Gardens. The Gardens is home to more than 160 species of wild mushrooms during fall and winter!

Look beyond the big trees and lumber mills to discover the vibrant world of “women’s work.” Through their own diaries, photos, and oral histories, this exhibit tells the lesser-known stories of entrepreneurs, nurses, artists, teachers, madams, and philanthropists who laid the foundation for the Mendocino we know today. Discover how their creativity, resilience, and hard work, both paid and unpaid, shaped the legacy of the Mendocino Coast in ways history books often overlook. Nominate your own local heroine, past or present during your visit. Bring a photo if you have one.
