Utilizing ancient Adinkra symbols, participants create and print their own fabric designs in what artist Asual Aswad calls "Talking Cloths". By means of at least six stamp symbols and colors of their own choosing, students employ a layered technique to transform a blank piece of fabric into an original work of art they can be proud of. Participants learn about the concepts of color, design, symmetry, pattern, and balance and how to use this knowledge to create a successful work of art. Water based, non-toxic acrylic paint is used with the fabric painting. This program is intended for youth ages 18 and under.

Chen-style Taijiquan (Tai Chi) is widely acknowledged as the ancestor of all other styles of Taijiquan. This class will introduce the Chen-style Taijiquan form, Silk-reeling Exercises and Wuji Qigong. The Chen-style Taijiquan form is soft and graceful with strong rooted stands that will help students to develop strength, balance, coordination and an understanding of basic Taiji principles. Silk-reeling Exercises are a series of spiral movements that promote muscle relaxation and flexibility by reducing physical tension and strain. Wuji Qigong (standing meditation) will help students cultivate internal energy (qi) with proper body alignment for better internal energy flow, enhancing their immune systems and reducing physical and mental stress.

The "ARE YOU READY TO LEARN" music program allows children and their families to explore the rich Creole culture and Zydeco music of Southwest Louisiana. Grammy-nominated Andre Thierry leads the musical adventure with an interactive, engaging experience that combines traditional and newly composed music. The gathering showcases a mix of African and Native American Blues, French Creole dance melodies, and elements of Afro-Caribbean music. Children sing and dance while learning about popular Zydeco instruments, such as the vest rubboards, drums, and accordions. This program will replace our regular Storytime.
