Every week of the year, at least one country is having a special children’s day.  To celebrate children around the world, participants will make and learn to play an Andean panpipe flute, learn dances from different countries, make a Japanese flying carp kite, and learn a bit about the culture of other countries.  This program is designed for children ages 5 and up. Join Nuestras Raíces for a performance by local music group TucSon Jarocho!  Here is the group's bio: "We are a community learning ensemble dedicated to Son Jarocho, a traditional music and dance practice from Veracruz, Mexico. Honoring its Indigenous, African, and Spanish roots, we bring people together through call-and-response singing, string instruments, and rhythmic dance (zapateado). Our gatherings and performances create welcoming spaces where families and participants of all ages can join, learn, and live through music and movement. Playing a genre of resistencia, rooted in community gathering and cultural memory, our ensemble feels a deep sense of responsibility and honor in sharing this music in the United States, while caring for its traditions and cultural expectations. For us, each performance is also a living practice of connection and transformation alongside the communities who join us." Nuestras Raíces te invita a una tarde de música con el grupo musical TucSon Jarocho.  Aquí está la descripción del grupo: "Somos un grupo de aprendizaje comunitario dedicado al Son Jarocho, una tradición musical y de danza de Veracruz, México. Read to a Dog is designed to allow kids the chance to read to a non-judgmental listener, one who will accept the story exactly as they read it. For many children, this allows them a rare chance to experience stress free reading; they're able to relax and having fun while reading! All of these elements work together to increase a child's motivation to read, which is an essential element in becoming a successful reader. Come read to Winston in the children's area on the first and third Tuesday of the month. Come read to Merlin in the children's area on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. How does Read to a Dog work? Kids come to library during Read to a Dog and select a book to read to a furry friend. All of the dogs and handlers who participate have been certified as therapy dogs by an accredited organization. Find out more about Read to a Dog. Thinking of adopting a pet?
