The Don Young Alaska Job Corps Center in Palmer will host a graduation ceremony on its Campus (800 E Lynn Martin Dr., Palmer) on Friday, August 14, 2026 at 2:00 pm to recognize the accomplishments of more than 80 graduates over the past year at Job Corps.  Center Director Bobbie Irvin stated “It has been a tough year for Job Corps, but we want to put that all behind us and celebrate the successes of our students who have endured so much.  The Don Young Alaska Job Corps center is open for business again and taking applications for all of our vocational training programs.”

A little bit about My House: "We are a unique non-profit that operates several for-profit ventures that offer employment and training you youth age 16-24, with preference given to homeless youth, and the goal of offering financial support back to the organization to support operating costs and services. Our philosophy is to offer a hand up, not a hand out. Youth coming for services are expected to work toward goals and make progress, accept help to remove barriers, and identify challenges personally that keep them from being successful." A little bit about Gathering Grounds Cafe: "Gathering Grounds Cafe trains and employ homeless youth, offering job skills and experience at being barista’s, making proper tea, making soup and panini sandwiches, customer service and teamwork .  Profits from the Cafe support client services, and help provide sustainability to our organization."

Open House at the Gateway Visitor Center! The Mat-Su CVB and Visit Anchorage have planned a special event to celebrate the opening of the new Gateway Visitor Center. Join industry associates from both Anchorage and Mat-Su communities on Wednesday, August 19 from 5:00–7:00 p.m. Network with new partners, enjoy delicious food catered by Turkey Red and show off your s'more skills by the fire. Help us celebrate The Mat-Su's new visitor center and community hub! There's no formal agenda to the evening, so please feel welcome to arrive at your convenience.
