"Make it Monday" forum - Partnering for Progress: How the Anchorage Equal Rights Commission Supports Local Businesses

This presentation will introduce the Anchorage Equal Rights Commission (AERC) and highlight how their services and resources can support local businesses in fostering inclusive, respectful, and legally compliant workplaces. By partnering with AERC, businesses can proactively address discrimination concerns, improve workplace culture, and enhance their reputation in the community. Key Topics: What is the AERC? Mission, authority, and services Common discrimination issues in Anchorage workplaces How AERC helps businesses: training and compliance support Real-world examples of successful partnerships with local businesses Q&A and open discussion on current challenges and opportunities Goals: Increase awareness of AERC’s role and resources Encourage proactive engagement with civil rights compliance Build stronger partnerships between the business community and AERC PLUS, a member presentation from Northern Air Cargo. Jennifer M. Booz is the Executive Director of the Anchorage Equal Rights Commission, where she leads efforts to analyze complaints, direct investigations, and resolve disputes related to equal rights. With a robust background in promoting fairness, justice, and representation, Jennifer has held significant roles such as Chief Diversity Officer at the University of Alaska, Anchorage, and Director of Diversity & Inclusion at The University of Toledo, OH. Her extensive experience includes developing strategic plans for fairness and representation, creating and assessing workshops, and fostering community relationships. Jennifer's academic credentials include a Certificate in Public Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and advanced studies in Higher Education from The University of Toledo, OH. She also holds a Master of Arts in Sociology from The University of Texas, El Paso, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Fullerton. Jennifer is recognized for her leadership in various community and professional organizations, including serving on committees and boards focused on representation and justice. She has presented at numerous national and international conferences on topics such as cultural equity, shared leadership, and social justice. Her commitment to fostering inclusive environments and her strategic approach to promoting fairness and representation make her a sought-after speaker and leader in the field. Join the Young Professionals Group for a fun and meaningful volunteer opportunity as we come together to facilitate a festive craft event for AWAIC featuring multiple hands-on craft booths where kids of the AWAIC community can create their own holiday keepsakes. As a volunteer, you’ll help guide children through a variety of creative activities including: • ✨ Snowglobe making • 🍪 Cookie decorating • 🖼 Picture frame crafting • 🎁 And more fun, festive projects! No prior crafting experience is required, just bring your enthusiasm, patience, and willingness to help create a joyful experience for local families. This is a wonderful way to give back to the community, connect with fellow YPG members, and be part of something truly special for local kids. What Volunteers Will Do: • Help set up and manage craft booths • Assist children with their crafts • Keep stations organized and running smoothly • Spread holiday cheer and encouragement This is a rewarding, hands-on volunteer opportunity that directly impacts families in the AWAIC community.
