This month we are reading Small Fry by Lisa Brennan-Jobs. Lisa's father, Steve Jobs, was a mythical figure rarely present in her life. As she grew older, he ushered her into a new world of mansions, vacations, and private schools. But he could also be cold, critical, and unpredictable. When her relationship with her mother grew strained in high school, Lisa moved in with her father, hoping he'd become the parent she'd always wanted him to be. A poignant story of a childhood spent between two imperfect but extraordinary homes. We will have regular and large print books to pick up at the Library or you can download the title on either the Libby or Hoopla apps. Register here through LibCal. You will receive an email reminder the day before; the Zoom link is emailed one hour before the start of the discussion.

PROTECTING AND EXPANDING REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM IN NEW JERSEY Access to safe, legal abortion and other reproductive health care services remains under threat across the country. In New Jersey we must protect access to time-sensitive care and prioritize the health and well-being of community members seeking birth control and pregnancy-related care, including abortion. Casey Olesko, Communications Director of Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey and advocate extraordinaire, will share information on ways our state can protect and expand everyone’s ability to receive comprehensive reproductive health care. She will provide 2020 best practice strategies and tips for advocating for Reproductive Freedom in New Jersey. Join Casey Olesko on October 14 to learn and fine tune your advocacy skills.  As an added bonus, the skills you learn will be applicable to other NCJW BCS advocacy efforts. Contact: office@ncjwbcs.org or 201-385-4847. For over a decade Casey Olesko, the Communications Director for the Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey, has championed reproductive health and rights for all people. Prior to joining Planned Parenthood, she worked as the Advocacy Center Manager for the Women’s Center, a group of independent abortion providers on the East Coast. Ms. Olesko serves as the President of the New Jersey Abortion Access Fund, a volunteer-run 501 (C)(3) organization, that provides financial assistance to those seeking safe, legal abortions. She graduated from The College of New Jersey with a BA in Sociology and Women’s and Gender Studies and a minor in Marketing. She served as President of a student organization that provided opportunities to engage in reproductive health advocacy for the campus community.
