Curator Tour from Home: Glenview’s Stenciled Ceilings from Hudson River Museum
Online Event (map)
In 1999, the Hudson River Museum completed a large-scale interior restoration project of #Glenview, the Museum’s 1877 Gilded Age home on the National Register of Historic Places, including repainting original stencil designs in the Parlor and above the Grand Staircase. Felix Chavez and his team of artists worked on this project for months, in consultation with museum staff, including the Museum’s current chair of the Curatorial Department, Laura Vookles, and preservation architect Page Ayers Cowley. Join Vookles and Chavez as they converse about this project, which our curator describes as one of the top five experiences of her career. Hear the compelling story of how Chavez, a Peruvian native, gave Glenview new life, using nineteenth-century materials and techniques and referencing antique black-and-white photographs to bring the colorful original Leissner and Lewis Eastlake-style embellishments back to their original splendor. Presented in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. Registration required for this #free event at: https://hudsonriver.secure.force.com/ticket/#/instances/a0Ff400000JxvM7EAJ #HudsonRiverMuseum

Tea @ 2 Book Club via Zoom from Glen Rock Public Library
This month we are reading Small Fry by Lisa Brennan-Jobs. Lisa's father, Steve Jobs, was a mythical figure rarely present in her life. As she grew older, he ushered her into a new world of mansions, vacations, and private schools. But he could also be cold, critical, and unpredictable. When her relationship with her mother grew strained in high school, Lisa moved in with her father, hoping he'd become the parent she'd always wanted him to be. A poignant story of a childhood spent between two imperfect but extraordinary homes. We will have regular and large print books to pick up at the Library or you can download the title on either the Libby or Hoopla apps. Register here through LibCal. You will receive an email reminder the day before; the Zoom link is emailed one hour before the start of the discussion.
