Feb 24
Mark Twain Library

Sunday, February 24 from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm

Mark Twain Library

Register BelowSince the Stone Age, varieties of visual thinking — and the related act of making images —have served us to understand the world we live in and explain ourselves to one another. Pictures, not words, came first.Acclaimed artist and teacher David Dunlop will show how our greatest innovations have derived from visualizing; how Galileo, Newton, Edison, Einstein and others relied upon IMAGE-MAKING to discover fresh insights into how the world works. And, he will demonstrate how you too can use forms of visualization to expand your understanding of complex problems and solve them.He will reveal how language keeps us tied to constrained categorical thinking, and how the ambiguity provided in picturing allows for categories of naming, math, art, literature and science to be transcended, expanded and synthesized.
