Using the Catechism in the Congregation Prof. John Pless The 2017 Catechism has numerous features that have the potential of enhancing the use of Luther’s Small Catechism in the congregation. This course will explore the guiding principles behind the revision, implications for catechetical pedagogy, the use of Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions in the revision, and devotional aspects of the Synod’s new catechism. This course will provide suggestions for a richer use of Luther’s Catechism in the congregation focusing on prayer and vocation. We will also offer some models for preaching on the chief parts of the Catechism in the Advent and Lenten midweek services. For questions, contact: Rev. James Leistico pastor@peacewindsor.com

Sacramental Theology in the Gospel of John Dr. William Weinrich Although the Gospel of John is frequently interpreted to be without sacramental meaning or reference the manner in which the story of Jesus is told reveals a pervasive Christological sacramental and ecclesial perspective. The narrative about Jesus is a narrative about the life of the church grounded in and instantiated in baptism and the eucharist. Thus the story of Jesus is descriptive of the “Way” that is of the manner of life begun and sustained through the sacraments of the church it is descriptive of the “Truth ” that is of the reality of grace and faith established in the sacraments of the church it is descriptive of the “Life ” that is of the life of God which in Jesus has become the life of man. Jill Rabin is a pediatric speech pathologist and international board certified lactation consultant who works with infants to three year olds. She has a private practice in the Chicagoland area where she primarily sees at-risk and special needs breastfeeding patients, children with Down syndrome and children with feeding aversion through the early intervention system. She often follows her patients with Down syndrome as breastfeeding newborns until they age out of the early intervention system. She also counsels pregnant mothers of babies with a prenatal diagnosis about how to establish breastfeeding. She utilizes the Baby-Led Weaning approach in transitioning babies to solid food feedings, and has found great success in using this approach with babies with Down syndrome and feeding aversion. She has lectured nationally and internationally on topics related to breastfeeding at-risk infants, feeding aversion and the impact of Baby-Led Weaning as a method to transition to solids. She has authored chapters in a book called Nursing Down Syndrome which is due to be published in the fall of 2018. She has also been a guest blogger writing posts on facilitating breastfeeding in babies with Down syndrome for Julia’s Way. It is her goal to build a collaborative relationship between speech pathologists and lactation consultants in hopes of increasing the possibility of successful breastfeeding, especially for at-risk infants.

Jul 24
Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana

Friday, July 24 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana

The JA Wine & Beer Festival is a fundraiser that brings a collection of local wineries & breweries together at the beautiful and scenic downtown Parkview Field for an evening of entertainment and fun! This year due to COVID-19 we’ve decided it best to not to have the 1 500-person event on July 24 that depends on the generosity and presence of struggling local businesses. While we are not having the event in the traditional way join us in July for: - our huge and amazing online auction - a raffle of a hard-to-get bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 23-Year - purchase a coupon book with great deals at local wineries breweries distillers and restaurants - a toast together on July 24 as we wrap up to the auction and announce the Pappy raffle winner We’re really going to miss seeing you at this fun and favorite event. Details will be updated here and we are glad you still want to have some fun and contribute to JA. We have altered our programs to give students online access and need your help to further inspire and educate area kids to own their future economic success and turn their dreams into reality. Proceeds benefit Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana and help pay for the funding of JA programs in our local schools. JA programs teach students from Kindergarten through 12th grade everyday life-lessons about financial literacy work readiness and entrepreneurship. JA relies on our volunteers to go into the classroom and teach these valuable life lessons to empower and carve the path for the next generation. If you're interested in becoming a JA volunteer please sign up today on our website www.jani.org.

Theological Anthropology Dr. K. Detlev Schulz (PLEASE NOTE: This class was briefly canceled, but has now been re-scheduled for the same time with a different teacher and topic. We are also working on updating the link for registration, which should be live soon.) For as long as humans have existed they have attempted to answer these questions: what is so special about us humans? From where do we originate and what distinguishes us from the rest of creation? What are we made up of? What is our purpose and destiny in life? Philosophers, Christian theologians, anthropologists, and scientists all have something to say. We will address these important questions from a biblical and theological perspective. Questions about this course? Rev. Gregory Bauch (904) 553-7066 pastorgregbauch@gmail.com
