A History of TV Comedy with Brian Rose from Eastchester Public Library
From the earliest days of television, making people laugh was one the central goals of TV programmers. Successful radio formats like the sitcom and the comedy/variety show moved to television in the late 1940s, joined a few years later by the medium’s own innovation, the late night comedy talk show. For the next seven decades, these three formats dominated the airwaves, led by brilliant comedians such as Sid Caesar, Jackie Gleason, Johnny Carson, Carol Burnett, Gilda Radner, and Jerry Seinfeld. This presentation will survey the extraordinary landscape of American TV comedy, examining how comedy changed from the vaudeville shtick of Milton Berle and the slapstick artistry of Lucille Ball to the social satire of Saturday Night Liveand the self-reflexive absurdities of David Letterman and The Simpsons. Early Rock and Roll Ballads with Richard Knox from Eastchester Public Library
While the first decade of the Rock 'n Roll Era was dominated by up-tempo hits by such artists as Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley and the Four Seasons, several other great vocalists were also famous for singing and arranging both original and "cover" versions of classic ballads that have endured over the half-century since they were first recorded. Groups such as The Platters and the Everly Brothers as well as solo performers such as Ben E. King, Johnny Mathis, Roy Orbison and Bobby Vinton were responsible for a large percentage of record sales and then became a staple on TV programs such as "American Bandstand" and the "Ed Sullivan Show."This nostalgic program (5 part series) will revisit many of these classic numbers as they were performed in live concerts or on television.Online registration by 12:30pm on the day of the program is required to receive ZOOM ID and password. Registration closes at 12:30 pm and the email will the information will be sent out at 12:45pm. Additional program dates are: February 10th, February 24th, March 10th and March 24th.

The Evolution of the Super Bowl from Eastchester Public Library
The Super Bowl is much more than a football game, and as you might know, it is the only sports event that impacts every community in the United States. But, did you know that the Super Bowl rose out of the civil rights movement, specifically the African American boycott of the AFL All Star Game in New Orleans? Evan Weiner, a veteran sports broadcaster will take us on a journey from the birth of the Super Bowl to talk about the halftime shows and everything in between, including how the famed football game got its name.Registration required for ZOOM ID and Password.
