Auditions - The Phantom Tollbooth
Aug 18
Civic Theater of Greater Lafayette
Lafayette, IN 47901

Sunday, August 18 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm

Civic Theater of Greater Lafayette

Director Stephanie Bosma has announced audition information for the first CYT production of the 2019-2020 Season "The Phantom Tollbooth" by Susan Nanus based on the book by Norton Juster. The production runs October 4-6 2019 at the Monon Depot Theatre. Here are Milo’s adventures in the Land of Wisdom where he’s forced to think about many new things. Milo learns of the argument between King Azaz and his brother the Mathemagician whose disagreement over words and numbers has led to the banishment of Princesses Sweet Rhyme and Pure Reason. Milo is dispatched to rescue the princesses from the Land of Ignorance. The knowledge and skills Milo picks up on his journey help him to save the princesses. When he must return home Milo’s sorry to leave his friends – but enriched by his experience he realizes his attitude toward learning will never be the same. Auditions: Sunday August 18 & Monday August 19 5:30-7:30 pm at the Civic Office. The director is looking for actors ages 8-18. Auditioners will be reading scenes from the script. No appointments necessary! Please arrive by 5:30 pm and be prepared to stay until dismissed. Copies of the script are available to check out for one week at the Civic Office (313 N 5th St.)

Zoo Sprouts - Season Two
Aug 20
Columbia Park Zoo
Columbian Park Zoo 1915 Scott St, Lafayette, Indiana 47904

Tuesday, August 20 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am

Columbia Park Zoo

Developed specifically with early childhood learning foundations in mind, this hour long class gives little learners a chance to explore nature and animals in a safe, nurturing environment. Get to know nature through play experiences, art, songs and stories, early science explorations, and of course - special animal friends! Supervised outings to zoo exhibits that complement the lesson may also be included, weather permitting. Each month holds a new lesson - attend one or enjoy them all! Zoo Sprouts is designed to accommodate emerging independence - caregivers may participate with their child, or observe the fun from the adult seating area. Caregivers and children comfortable with drop-off are permitted to do so, provided the child is fully potty-trained. This program is for children 3 and 4 years old with adult caregiver participation optional. The second season will be "Alphabet Zoo." Each month will focus on a new letter as we explore different animals as well as the big, big world around us. Advance registration required. Please note due to space limitation, only one adult may attend with each registered child. For everyone’s enjoyment, unregistered children (including siblings) may not attend. Parents with infants/siblings may wait in the lobby. Cost is $13 per session (Zoo Members save 15%!).

A Civic MainStage Production at the Monon Depot Theatre by Harper Lee, dramatized by Christopher Sergel Directed by TJ Rosa Adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, To Kill a Mockingbird opens in a sleepy Alabama town in the midst of the Great Depression, where Scout and her brother, Jem, live with their widowed father, Atticus Finch. Reminiscent of a bygone era, the play immerses us in a simpler time as the children play outside in the summer, act out stories and muse about their mysterious neighbor, Boo Radley. The facade of the seemingly peaceful town begins to crack when a young black man is accused of a terrible crime. Driven by an unshakeable moral conviction, local lawyer Atticus defends the man in a trial that sends violent waves through the community. Timeless and lingering, this hard-hitting work explores prejudice, compassion and the courage to do what is right. Zoo Sprouts - Season Two
Sep 7
Columbia Park Zoo
Columbian Park Zoo 1915 Scott St, Lafayette, Indiana 47904

Saturday, September 7 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am
