This event will take place in person in the Yeager Community Room located on the lower level of the Library.John Constable's lyric naturalism conjures up the pre-industrial, rural society of his boyhood while J. M. W. Turner's dramatic depictions of the fury of nature and of modern life in an industrial society are the two poles around which British Romantic landscape painting revolved during the early 19th century. Their attitudes towards nature and their bravura brushwork anticipated the work of the later French Impressionists. Join us for this lecture given by retired art history professor, Dennis Raverty.

As a way to recognize and celebrate Earth Day and increase awareness around plastic waste and water conservation, come join us for a virtual program to learn how to create a rainwater harvesting system for your community. High school student Madeline Abrams has developed an environmentally friendly and economically accessible way to capture rainwater using otherwise discarded plastic water bottles to create an irrigation system for vegetable gardens, farms and landscapes. Madeline recently presented her rainwater harvesting system virtually to 45 communities in New York, California, Uganda, Namibia, Lesotho, Angola and South Africa. Her invention is being shared with villages and communities as a way to conserve water and address the issue of upcycling plastic waste that has become a major problem in many parts of the world. After the Zoom presentation, Madeline will share the instructional video she created as a reference to build her watering system to help communities harvest every drop. http://whiteplainslibrary.evanced.info/eventsignup.asp?ID=93253
