This is a zoom event.  To receive the link, click here to register. For more than 125 years, filmmakers have been drawn to the dynamic vitality of New York City. Its dramatic architecture, its diverse neighborhoods and populations, its universally recognized landmarks, its 24/7 lifestyle, and its 8 million stories have helped make the city a featured player in more than 17,000 movies—including such memorable films as King Kong, Naked City, On the Town, West Side Story, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Taxi Driver, Wall Street, and Do the Right Thing. Illustrated with more than 50 clips, this presentation demonstrates the changing ways New York has been captured on film, and why it still remains a star attraction today.Presented by:  BRIAN ROSE is a professor emeritus at Fordham University, where he taught for 38 years in the Department of Communication and Media Studies. He’s written several books on television history and cultural programming, and conducted more than a hundred Q&A’s with leading directors, actors, and writers for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the Screen Actors Guild, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, and the Directors Guild of America.

Mar 20
Bronxville Public Library
Bronxville, NY 10708

Wednesday, March 20 at 7:00 pm

Bronxville Public Library

Register in Advance HereWe are offering this Zoom presentation to help families understand how the lingering effects from the pandemic have changed the college admissions landscape and how it affects Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen. We’ll also discuss how the Supreme Court decision will impact the college admissions process and how a student’s ability to express their insights, experiences and personal growth will become even more important. The recent college admissions cycle was the most competitive to date. With most colleges continuing their test-optional policies as well as increasing their virtual outreach to high school students, many schools had record numbers of applicants. Record high numbers of applications result in record low acceptance rates which is what most popular colleges and universities experienced this past admissions cycle. We will discuss current college admissions trends, the importance of researching and visiting colleges to find schools that can be a good fit for your child, a timeline and other action steps that can be taken to make this second half of the school year productive and help reduce the stress around the college admissions process. We’ll examine the holistic admissions review process, what admissions officers consider important when they review applicants, and how students can position themselves to develop a compelling narrative to increase their chances for admission. We will also discuss the importance of community service, how it can provide an opportunity for personal growth and a way to showcase a student’s character. Admissions officers place great emphasis on a student’s character and how the student has been able to give back and help others. This program is recommended for parents and their high school teens. The presentation will be led by Ron Feuchs and Jackie Tepper, partners at Stand Out For College, LLC. (www.standoutforcollege.com)

Youth Justice: 5 Years After "Raise the Age" Legistration
Mar 21
White Plains Public Library
White Plains Public Library at Auditorium

Thursday, March 21 from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm

White Plains Public Library

Sponsored by Westchester Children's Association this event is free and open to the public. New Yorks Raise the Age (RTA) law passed in 2017 with bipartisan support. This was a long-coming and hard one victory to treat our children as children. In the past 5+ years, RTA has seen substantial changes including redirecting resources towards support services, counseling, and education, enabling a more holistic approach to youth rehabilitation. With adequate funding from the state, we can invest in the services and community assets that Raise the Age calls for and help vulnerable youth develop crucial skills fostering healthier and safer communities. The journey towards comprehensive youth justice in New York demands continual dedication and advocacy. To register for the event, visit the registration page here: https://wca4kids.org/events/youth-justice-five-years-of-raise-the-age/=0D=0A=0D=0A http://whiteplainslibrary.evanced.info/eventsignup.asp?ID=92083
