Experience the calming power of movement and breath in our Slow Vinyasa Flow Program. This gentle yet dynamic yoga class is designed for those looking to build strength, flexibility, and balance while cultivating mindfulness and relaxation. What is Slow Vinyasa Flow? Vinyasa yoga links breath with movement, creating a flowing sequence of poses. In this slower-paced class, transitions between poses are deliberate and mindful, allowing for greater focus on alignment, breath control, and the sensations of each movement. What to Bring: Comfortable clothing, a yoga mat or large towel, water, and an open mind! Yoga blocks are suggested for your comfort, but not required. Our instructor, Pauline Estey, graduated from the American Academy of Personal Training in June 2016, and is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer. She has been teaching yoga to children and adults at libraries and fitness centers since 2018. Please note: This is an adult event. As per our Safe Child Policy, young children cannot be dropped off in other parts of the library while their guardian is participating in the yoga class; children should not come into the class as it is disruptive to participants. Tweens are invited to this special program run by the Westborough High School Science Club. This program is intended for students in 5th and 6th grade and will provide them with an introduction to experimental design, robotics, and coding to prepare them for future internships and research opportunities throughout middle and high school. Each student will learn essential skills through a series of five workshops and design an original project. They will then be given the opportunity to present this project at a science fair held at the local library. Awards will be given to the top scoring projects. Looking to create a meaningful gift for a loved one? Want to take time away from the holiday rush? Join us for Bead Therapy.  Bead Therapy is an expressive arts workshop that teaches participants the basics of beaded jewelry making and the difference between semi-precious stones and precious stones. The materials used are semi-precious stones and other natural jewelry materials.  Semi-precious stones have been appreciated for generations for their unique beauty and healing and grounding properties. Join Zangar Freeman, BSW, Artist and Mental Health Coach, for this interactive  and meditative program, where participants will gain the creative power to express how they feel and see how their feelings look in the form of the art they produced. Each participant will keep all the pieces they make. ****** About the instructor: Zangar Freeman is a first-generation Liberian-American jewelry artist, educator, and veteran who integrates cultural storytelling and art therapy practices into his beadwork. With a background in social work and a deep appreciation for community connection, he has taught beadwork and expressive arts across the lifespan, working with youth clubs, community centers, senior centers, and schools. His workshops foster third spaces through library programming, creating environments where people can connect, reflect, and express themselves through art. Zangarâs journey with jewelry-making began over a decade ago and deepened through his study abroad experience in San Miguel de Allende, where he refined his skills in working with fine materials such as silver and gold. A former U.S. Marine specializing in aviation administration, he later transitioned into social work, serving as a case manager and transitional advocate for diverse populations. Are you looking to cultivate a mind that is more peaceful? More capable of navigating challenges with a little more grace and effectiveness? Or to simply be more awake and present in each moment? Interested? Why not try our local Mindfulness group, which has been meeting since the Fall of 2015? It is free, and meets on Zoom on Tuesday evenings 7:00 â 8:15 pm. A typical session will begin with a mindfulness meditation, slightly guided, to be followed by discussion and Q&A, and then a guided introduction to a related mindfulness practice such as kindness, compassion, or gratitude; contemplations for working with physical and emotional pain; and mindful eating exercises. The class is open to those new to mindfulness meditation and also to those with experience. Participants will gain the experience and confidence to cultivate their own personal at-home practice. The program runs on Zoom, and you will have the option of just calling in on a regular phone in which case you can hear our discussion and participate in it verbally (and we can hear you) OR connecting to the meeting via the internet on your computer, laptop, or smart phone â in which case you will be able to see and hear everyone and we can all hear you if you speak (and we can see you if you choose to be visible). If you have never done this, believe me it is not that hard. Over 250 people have participated in our Zoom Mindfulness program. On a typical Tuesday night there will be about 35 â 45 participants. Attendance at all sessions is not required, but momentum will build from week to week. If you are interested, the first step is for you to let me know by sending an email to [email protected], confirming that you would like to be included on the invitation list. If so, I will then send you an email with instructions about how to join the ZOOM meeting either by phone or computer. I look forward to practicing mindfulness with you. ------- Greg Topakian, Ph.D., is a long time educator and actuary. Over the past forty years, he has balanced his professional life with a daily practice of yoga and mindfulness meditation. During that period Greg has participated in several long term retreats to deepen his concentration and awareness. Now in semi-retirement, Greg teaches mindfulness to employees of local colleges, town governments, and corporations across the state. Every Spring and Fall, he offers a multi-week Introduction to Mindfulness at the Westborough Library.
